Smiths Falls Beavers

From BR Bullpen

The only professional baseball team in the history of Smiths Falls, ON, the Smiths Falls Beavers were a New York Yankees farm team in the 1937 Canadian-American League. Managed by Johnny Haddock, the team was owned by a division of the Canadian Pacific Railroad, which had a key stop in the town. They played their games in Canadian Pacific Recreation Field and went 57-49, 5th in the 8-team league. Ernest Downer hit .315 with 22 homers and 98 RBI while Al E. Smith hit .321 with 17 homers and 96 RBI. The star was Xavier Rescigno, the only player from the club to make the majors. Rescigno went 16-7 with a 1.56 ERA, a mark that stands as the all-time record in the Can-Am. With a population of 9,000, attendance was limited and the team drew just 14,197, forcing a move to Auburn, NY where they became the Auburn Bouleys.
