Simon de la Rey was a backup third baseman for South Africa in the 1998 Baseball World Cup. The teenager went 0 for 7 with six strikeouts and an error. Back with South Africa in the 2000 Olympics, he went 1 for 7, backing up Francisco Alfino at the hot corner.
