Simon Flynn played in the Bundesliga and for the British national team.
Flynn was 3 for 7 with 4 walks, a double and 4 runs for Regensburg Legionäre in 2000, going 1-1 with 7 saves and a 2.84 ERA (47 K with 38 IP). He was 9th in the southern Bundesliga-1 in whiffs and led in saves. [1] He hit .278/.352/.379 for Regensburg in '01, and was 3-2 with two saves and a 2.66 ERA. [2]
With Britain for the 2001 European Championship, he struck out 7 in 9 innings (3 R, 2 ER) and went 1 for 5 as a backup at 1B. He handled 21 chances error-free. [3] He went six innings against Ukraine, relieved by Alex Smith with a 3-2 deficit against Anatoliy Korolov but Britain rallied to win. Against Belgium, he relieved Ben Godfrey and closed out a 4-3 loss with 3 shutout frames, fanning 4. He led Britain in ERA (1.24 ahead of Smith) and was 3rd in K (behind Edwin Delzer and Smith). [4]
In the 2005 European Championship, he allowed three runs in 1 2/3 IP. Only Nick Carter had a higher ERA for the Brits. [5]
