Biographical Information[edit]

Silvestre Popoteur was one of two left-handed hurlers on the Dominican national team for the 1992 Olympics; Cipriano Ventura was the other. Popoteur relieved Juan Viñas in the first against Puerto Rico after Viñas had retired only one of five batters. Popoteur fared better, allowing 4 hits, 4 walks and 4 unearned runs in 4 1/3 IP, with one K (of Helson Rodriguez), before Roberto Casey relieved him. Versus Taiwan, he worked the final inning of a 11-0 mercy rule loss, taking over for Casey and allowing two hits, a walk and two runs. His 3.38 ERA was second on the Dominican team in Barcelona, behind only Ventura.
