Biographical Information[edit]

Roberto Casey pitched for the Dominican national team.

Casey appeared for the Dominicans when they fell just short of a Bronze in the 1991 Pan American Games (taking Team USA 15 innings in the Bronze Medal Game). In the 1992 Olympics, he pitched three games. Against Puerto Rico, he relieved Silvestre Popoteur in the 5th and allowed three hits, one walk and one unearned run in 3 1/3 IP as a Dominican comeback fell short in a 7-5 loss. He next pitched against Taiwan, replacing Félix Nova with one out in the first and was the top Dominican hurler of the day, allowing 5 runs in 5 2/3 IP (6 H, 5 BB) against the Silver Medalists; Popoteur took over for him. Versus Italy, he relieved Cipriano Ventura with one out in the 9th and got the win, retiring five of six hitters while walking one in a 7-5, 10-inning win. He tied Eugenio Valdez and Nova for the team lead in appearances, was second to Ventura in IP and tied Ventura for the team lead with one win. His 4.22 ERA was third on the staff, behind Ventura and Popoteur.
