Biographical Information[edit]
Shoji Arisumi has been an umpire in Nippon Pro Baseball.
A pitcher in college, he was signed by the Yakult Swallows as an undrafted free agent. He spent two years in the minors, never making the top team. He was a batting practice pitcher for them in 1991 then became an umpire. He reached the Central League umpiring staff in 1995 and had worked 2,000 career games by 2019. He won Umpire of the Year in 2016 and 2020. He has worked the 2002 NPB All-Star Game, 2007 NPB All-Star Game, 2008 Japan Series, 2013 NPB All-Star Game, 2013 Japan Series, 2015 Japan Series, 2016 Japan Series, 2020 Japan Series, 2021 NPB All-Star Game, 2021 Japan Series and 2023 World Baseball Classic.
