Biographical Information[edit]
Shohei Morishita played for Hitachi in the industrial leagues after college. He made the Japanese national team for the 2018 Asian Games and 2019 Asian Championship. In the Asian Games, he hit .364/.500/.909 with 5 runs and 8 RBI in 5 games entering the finale while handling five chances error-free at third; 7 of the RBI came in a rout of China. He was third in the event in RBI (after Jae-gyun Hwang and Jawad Ali) and second in slugging (.041 behind Hwang). He was 0 for 3 in the Gold Medal Game loss to South Korea.
In the '19 Asian Championship, he hit .571/.600/1.000 with 5 RBI and 5 runs in the first five games as Japan's DH. He also blasted a solo shot off Dong-hyun Park of South Korea.In the Gold Medal Game, he hit 3rd as designated hitter, going 1-for-4 with 2RBI in a 4-5 loss to Taiwan. He tied Muhammad Majeed for second in average (behind Chun-Kai Liao), tied Liao for 9th in OBP, tied for 6th in runs, tied for 4th in hits and tied for 8th in RBI.
