Biographical Information

Shirley Burkovich signed with the Chicago Colleens of the AAGPBL as a 16-year-old in 1949 and needed to get permission from her parents as well as her high school to do so. She was the ultimate defensive utility player, and played every position except catcher during her time in the league.
