Biographical Information[edit]
Shinji Kirihara was the shortstop and captain of the Keio University baseball team in the 1920's. He was instrumental in convincing authorities to revive the rivalry with Waseda University which had been stopped since 1906.
Shinji died from a disease contracted during his service during World War II.
Kirihara was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.
