Biographical Information[edit]
Shinichiro Kawabata played for the Japanese national team for several years.
Kawabata was with Japan when they won Silver in the 1990 Goodwill Games. [1] In the 1991 Intercontinental Cup, he was Japan's DH usually and played a bit of first. He hit .279/.313/.442 with 9 RBI in 11 games, tying Yuichi Yomoda for the team lead in RBI. He was 0 for 5 in the Gold Medal Game, a 11-inning 5-4 loss to Cuba as Cuba's nine-year run of titles in events nearly ended. [2]
The Kagoshima native struggled for the Bronze Medalists in the 1992 Olympics, backing up Hirotami Kojima at DH. He was 1 for 9 with a walk, double and RBI, his lone hit coming off Cuba's Giorge Díaz. [3]
