Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeru Morikasa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.

Morikasa was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 4th round of the 1998 NPB draft, and he was 7-for-32 in 1999. He hit .237/.276/.331 in 91 games in 2000, and he had a .274/.308/.371 batting line in 2001. Morikasa was 0-for-19 in 2002, then he played 117 games with a .265/.325/.409 batting line in 2003. He hit .276/.340/.328 in 2004, and he recorded a .306/.322/.424 batting line in 2005. Morikasa then collected 4 triples with a .292/.337/.419 batting line in 2006, and he tied Tomoaki Kanemoto for the 3rd in triples in the Central League. The Yokosuka native had a .271/.300/.326 batting line in 2007, but he only got 43 at-bats with the big club in 2008. The Carp then traded him to the Yokohama BayStars for cash, and Morikasa played 62 games with a .198/.259/.317 batting line in 2009. He mainly stayed in the minors in 2010, then he announced his retirement. He later coached in Carp system from 2011 to 2022, and he jumped to the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in 2023.

Overall, Morikasa hit .264/.308/.363 with 412 hits and 21 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
