Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Shigeo Murakami joined the Lion team in 1940 and hit just .183/.277/.191 with one extra-base hit in 131 at-bats. The club was renamed Asahi in 1941 but Murakami did worse (.182/.173/.212), finishing his career at .183/.271/.200. He then served in the Japanese military and was killed in combat on Leyte island in the Phillipines on his 32nd birthday.
