Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeharu Murata played in Nippon Professional Baseball in 1936 and 1937. He had previously been with Tokyo City Hall in the industrial leagues. He was with the Osaka Tigers in the fall of 1936, going hitless in one at-bat and posting a 2.25 ERA in his single pitching appearance, and Dai Tokyo in the spring of 1937, going 3 for 14 with two walks, a steal and a run and going 0-1 with a 5.52 ERA, walking 19 in 14 2/3 IP. His first hit as a pro came off Hachiro Maekawa. As an outfielder with Lion in the fall of 1937, he was 0 for 3 with a walk in 8 games, presumably a defensive sub or pinch-runner.
