Biographical Information[edit]

Shichiro Yokozawa was an infielder in the Japanese Professional Baseball League. His brother Saburo Yokozawa was his first umpire.

Shichiro debuted with the Tokyo Senators in the spring of 1936, when Japanese professional baseball began. He went 1 for 8 with two walks. In the fall campaign, he was 9 for 25 with 8 walks, a double and 6 errors. As Tokyo's starting third baseman, he hit only .118/.204/.127 with 20 errors to 12 hits in the spring of 1937 and .177/.301/.218 in the fall. He hit .155/.293/.165 in the spring of 1938 and .127/.294/.164 in the fall.

Yokozawa hit .181/.298/.208 with 55 walks in 1939 with more errors (31) than RBI (24). In 1940, he batted .182/.288/.212 for Tsubasa. He next saw action in 1946, hitting .188/.330/.235 with 51 BB in 74 G for the Senators. He wrapped up in 1947, batting .222/.325/.253 for the Toei Flyers. For his NPB career, he hit .180/.301/.210 with 149 runs, 92 RBI and 248 walks in 448 games, while making 141 errors. He set the all-time Nippon Pro Baseball record with no home runs in 1,770 career plate appearances.

After finishing as a player, Yokozawa became an umpire, like his brother. He worked over 1,500 games in the Pacific League.
