Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Shea Morenz was selected by the New York Yankees in the first round of the 1995 amateur draft. He was a quarterback at the University of Texas and led the team to a bowl game, but he had more success in baseball, as the Longhorns played in the 1993 College World Series. He was signed by scout Joe Robinson.
Shea played in the minors from 1995 to 1999. In 1998, he moved to the San Diego Padres organization late in the season, playing 13 games in AAA with the Las Vegas Stars. Those were the only AAA games of his career, as he played just 25 games in 1999, his season cut short by an injury.
His father, Brian Morenz, played four seasons in the World Hockey Association; Shea was born while his father was playing for the short-lived Jersey Knights, before settling in the San Diego, CA area when the team became the San Diego Mariners.
