Biographical information[edit]

Shawn McGill was drafted by the Anaheim Angels in the 45th round of the 2002 Amateur Draft from South Kingstown High School, but opted to attend college instead. Four years later the Philadelphia Phillies drafted him in the 23rd round of the 2006 Amateur Draft from Boston College and McGill played in their minor league system from 2006-2007. McGill spent 2008-2009 plus the first part of 2010 with the independent Lincoln Saltdogs before the Atlanta Braves signed him to play in their minor league system. He continued in the Braves organization through 2013 and reached the AAA Gwinnett Braves on a couple of occasions. In his six minor league seasons McGill hit .261/.329/.375 while appearing in 218 games, primarily at catcher.

McGill joined the Baltimore Orioles organization in 2014 as a coach.

The 2018 New Hampshire Fisher Cats media guide listed him as a field coach for the Baysox again in 2018 though this could not be confirmed by other sources.
