Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Shane Robinson was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2006 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Steve Turco and made his pro debut that summer with the Swing of the Quad Cities, hitting .282 with 13 stolen bases in 63 games. Robinson first reached the major leagues in 2009 with the Cardinals and spent at least parts of 2011-2018 at the major league level with various teams. Strong glovework was a big reason for his lengthy career as Robinson was a very solid outfielder. He posted +26 Defensive Runs Saved and +12.4 UZR/150 over his 1792 2/3 career innings with above-average career scores at all three outfield spots. Unfortunately, Robinson's bat was not as strong as his glove. Overall he hit .221/.288/.292 over 849 plate appearances in the majors while playing in 461 games.
Robinson spent the 2019 season with the Philadelphia Phillies AAA affiliate, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He signed with the Atlanta Braves prior to the 2020 season but never appeared in a game. In 2021 he wrapped up his playing days with a five-game stint with the Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League.
The San Diego Padres hired Robinson in 2022 as a bench coach with the San Antonio Missions. He left the Padres organization in 2023 and moved to the New York Mets as their minor league outfield & baserunning coordinator. Robinson dropped baserunning from his area of responsibility in 2024 as Jemile Weeks was named the Mets minor league baserunning coordinator.
