Shane Alan Livensparger

Biographical Information[edit]

Shane Livensparger is a major league umpire who worked his first game in June of 2017. He became a permanent member of the major league umpiring crew in 2023.

A cross-country runner in college who became a certified fitness instructor, Livensparger began his pro umpiring career in the Arizona League in 2009. He moved up to the New York-Penn League (2010), South Atlantic League (2011), Florida State League (2012), Southern League (2013-2014), International League (2015) and Venezuelan League (2015-2016). He worked the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.

While working his way through the minors as an umpire, he enrolled in the Georgia Air National Guard in 2020, out of respect for his grandfather who had served 20 years in the U.S. Marines. While the COVID-19 pandemic played havoc with his training schedule, he graduated from officer training school in December 2022 with the rank of second lieutenant - at the same time as he was promoted to the major league umpiring staff. His plan was to train to become an air battle manager following the 2023 season.
