Shance Zou was part of the Henan Elephants when they joined the China Baseball League in 2009. He pitched for China in the 2009 Baseball World Cup, but gave up 7 runs in 2/3 of an inning for a 94.50 ERA. Six of the runs and none of the outs came in a start against Venezuela. He began by walking Dirimo Chavez, then gave up a Lino Connell single. He walked Michael Sandoval then allowed a 3-run triple to Rene Reyes and a 2-run homer to Luis Landaeta. Willie Vasquez singled as well.
