Biographical Information[edit]
Seiji Tahara pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Tahara was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 7th round of the 2012 NPB draft, and he had a 3.26 ERA in 32 games in his first season. He was sent to the Cangrejeros de Santurce after that season, and he pitched 2 games with a 3.48 ERA. Tahara suffered from a waist injury in 2013, so he only pitched 7 games with the big club. He then had a 2.89 ERA in 20 games in 2014, and he pitched 18 games with a 1.00 ERA in 2015. Tahara had his career year in 2016, and he notched 14 holds with a 3.46 ERA in 64 appearances. He was 6th in the Central League in games pitched, between Ryo Akiyoshi and Scott Mathieson. Tahara's ERA was 2.89 in 27 games in 2017, then he went 2-0 with a 2.56 ERA in 2018. He got 5 holds with a 4.32 ERA in 25 games in 2019, and he announced his retirement after staying in the minors for the entire 2020 season.
Overall, Tahara was 12-7 with a 3.13 ERA, collected 35 holds in 222 appearances, struck out 138 and pitched 207 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
