Biographical Information[edit]
Scott Harris was 32 years old when he was appointed General Manager of the San Francisco Giants on November 11, 2019. During the ptevious year, President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi had served as his own GM.
Harris worked for the Chicago Cubs for seven years under Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer before taking the Giants' job, joining the team in 2012 and rising to the rank of Assistant GM early in 2019. He had grown up in the Bay Area as a Giants fan and started working for Major League Baseball in 2010 before moving to the Cubs.
On September 19, 2022, he was named President of Baseball Operations for the Detroit Tigers. He was taking over for GM Al Avila, who had been fired the previous August, and Sam Menzin, who had filled the position on an interim basis. He combined the duties of President and GM for one year, then on September 21, 2023, hired Jeff Greenberg to be the GM. Greenberg had been until then the Assistant GM of the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League, but had previously spent over a decade working for the Chicago Cubs under Theo Epstein.
