Scott Googins is a college coach.
A catcher in college, Googins was an assistant coach for Indiana University for eight years. Scott then spent four seasons as an assistant at Miami University. In 2005, he came to Xavier University in an assistant role.
Googins was promoted to head coach of Xavier for 2006. After a 19-35 debut for their new coach, Xavier improved to 25 wins in 2007 and set school records in fielding percentage and hits. In '08, the team was 27-31 and Googins was named Atlantic-10 Conference Coach of the Year. Xavier set a new school record with 587 hits, breaking the one-year-old mark. The team made the championship game of the A-10 Tournament for the first time ever.
Xavier was 39-21 to set a school record for wins in 2009 and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever. The team set school records for runs (445), hits (663) and pitcher strikeouts (446). He went 341-357 at Xavier, setting the school record for career wins, then moved to the University of Cincinnati for the 2018 season. He was 143-156 before resigning after the 2023 season.
