Biographical Information[edit]

Satoshi Funaki pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Funaki represented Japan in the 1995 Asian Championship. The Hanshin Tigers drafted him in the first round of the 1995 NPB draft. Funaki joined the rotation as a rookie, and recorded a 4.49 ERA in 17 starts. He was 1-8 with a 4.84 ERA in 1997, but his ERA rose to 6.84 in 1998. Funaki bounced back in 1999, pitched 51 1/3 innings with a 3.86 ERA. However, he suffered a right elbow injury, only pitching 12 games combined in the next three years. The Tigers released him after the 2002 season. The Chiba Lotte Marines picked him up, but his ERA was a still-terrible 6.23 in 16 relief outings in 2003. He allowed 2 runs in one inning in 2004, then announced his retirement after the 2004 season.

Overall, Funaki was 9-24 with a 5.09 ERA and pitched 314 2/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
