Biographical Information[edit]

Sandy Madera began his professional career in 2000.

Playing Career[edit]

He was signed as an undrafted free agent on February 6, 1998 by the Oakland Athletics. He played in their system until 2002 and joined the New York Yankees system in 2003. He remained with the Yankees until partway through 2004, when he latched on with the Colorado Rockies.

Joining the independent ranks for 2005, he hit .350/.396/.600 with nine home runs and 38 RBI for the New Jersey Jackals. On December 13 of that year, he inked a deal with the Baltimore Orioles and played in their system in 2006 (hitting .292/.352/.492 in 195 at-bats) and part of 2007. He spent most of 2007 with the Jackals, however, and hit .364/.421/.615 with 21 home runs and 75 RBI for them.

The Boston Red Sox signed him for 2008 and he reached Triple-A, hitting .292/.374/.522 with six home runs and 25 RBI for the Pawtucket Red Sox and .291/.356/.495 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI on the year as a whole. He played five games for Pawtucket in 2009, but spent most of the campaign back in indy ball, where he hit .375/.422/.570 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI for the Newark Bears.

Madera split 2010 between Newark (.292/.370/.506, 4 HR, 16 RBI) and the Mexican League, playing for the Saraperos de Saltillo (.391/.446/.579, 8 HR, 38 RBI) and the Leones de Yucatan (.367/.446/.742, 10 HR, 32 RBI), hitting .366/.432/.606 with 22 home runs, 86 RBI, 99 runs scored and 35 doubles on the year. Between New Jersey (.289/.420/.421, 1 HR, 9 RBI), Yucatan (.320/.415/.492, 9 HR, 42 RBI) and the Sultanes de Monterrey (.325/.408/.530, 10 HR, 28 RBI), Madera hit .322/.409/.520 with 20 home runs and 79 RBI in 109 games in 2011.

He only played in the Mexican Pacific Winter League in 2012, hitting .274/.357/.532 with 14 home runs and 40 RBI in 51 games for the Caneros de Los Mochis. That was a far cry from previous winter ball performances: In 2011, he hit .366/.444/.624 with 13 home runs and 44 RBI for Los Mochis; in 2010, he hit .362/.418/.597 with 14 home runs and 48 for the same club; and in 2009, he hit .413/.492/.654 with 14 home runs and 28 RBI for the Caneros.

With the Pericos de Puebla in 2013, Madera hit .390/.441/.603 with 19 home runs, 92 RBI and 85 runs scored; he hit .381/.480/.667 in 18 games for Los Mochis that winter. Back with Puebla for 2014, he hit .403/.477/.696 with 26 home runs and 98 RBI to earn Mexican League Most Valuable Player honors. His performance dipped that winter, however, as he hit only .263/.370/.314 with two home runs and 12 RBI for the Caneros.

He began 2015 with Puebla.
