Biographical Information[edit]

Sandy Bermúdez has played for the Nicaraguan national team.

He debuted for Chontales in 2013, going 1 for 3. [1] He hit .332/.362/.432 in 2014, becoming a regular the year he turned 20. In 2015, he was steady at .320/.366/.448 (with a league-high nine triples), followed by .296/.348/.402 in 2016. [2] In the 2016 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he hit .455/.552/.500 for Nicaragua, handling five putouts with no errors as the starting right fielder. [3]

Bermúdez's batting line in 2017 was .302/.367/.457 in 2016, then .292/.346/.398 in 2018 and .407/.446/.617 in 2019. He was .011 behind batting champ Ofilio Castro. [4] He was even better in 2020 at .435/.503/.669, winning the batting crown. He also drive in 46 runs in 41 games in a COVID-19-shorted season. [5] He produced at a .307/.367/.375 rate in 2021 but led the loop with nine sac flies. [6] To that point, his career average was .330.

He made Nicaragua's team for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his debut, he pinch-hit for Isaac Benard and singled off Brazil's Oscar Nakaoshi. He remained in the game in right and became Nicaragua's primary right fielder for the event. He came up big in their elimination game against Argentina, doubling against Eric Ma to drive in Elmer Reyes with the first run in a 6-5 victory. He hit .364/.455/.462 as Nicaragua won a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first World Baseball Classic; his three RBI tied Steven Leytón, Benard and Reyes for the team lead.
