Biographical Information[edit]
Sam Kimber was a rookie at age 31 in 1884 when he went 18-20 for the Brooklyn Atlantics, and then pitched in only one more game after that. A notable performance in 1884 was when he pitched a ten-inning no-hitter in a tie game on October 4.
Kimber was one of two regular starters for the Atlantics, the other being another rookie, 19-year-old Adonis Terry.
Kimber later played in 1887 for Wheeling of the Ohio State League, an integrated team that also featured Sol White. A photo of the team can be found here.
The SABR biography says that he pitched for amateur and semi-pro clubs for years before his major league days, and after baseball he worked as a watchman.
