Biographical Information

Sam Frock pitched four years in the National League and eleven years in the minors. His most notable performance in the majors was with the 1910 Boston Doves when he managed to win 12 games on a team that went 53-100 for the year. In the minors he won 20+ games four times.

Sam started getting attention at a young age by winning 20+ games for each of the 1906 Worcester Busters, the 1907 Worcester Busters and the 1908 Providence Grays, coming to the majors briefly with the 1907 Boston Doves and not pitching terribly for a raw rookie.

He played with the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates, posting an ERA of 2.48, and came back with the 1910 Pirates for just one game before getting traded to the Doves near the end of April. He was with the major-league 1911 Boston Rustlers for four games but spent most of the year in the minors. He was 14-8 for the minor league 1911 Baltimore Orioles and also pitched some for the 1911 Atlanta Crackers.

Later in the minors he spent parts of three years with the Utica Utes and four seasons with the Binghamton Bingoes, winning 62 games over that four year period with the Bingoes.

In 1918 and 1919 he managed a semi-pro team called the Baltimore Dry Docks. [1] [2]

Statistics are not complete, but he won over 175 games in his 13-year pro career.

Sam, who was born in Baltimore, MD, died young at age 42 in the place of his birth.
