Biographical information

Sam Ali is a former minor league pitcher who spent most of his career in independent leagues, although he did play in the San Francisco Giants system in 1995.

He played in only eight games in affiliated ball, split between the Bellingham Giants and Burlington Bees. In those eight relief appearances, he went 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA. In 1996, he played for the Massachusetts Mad Dogs of the North Atlantic League, going 5-0 with a 2.81 ERA in 17 games (one start). He went 5-3 with a 3.22 ERA in 131 1/3 innings for the Uni-President Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in 1997.

He did not play again until 1999, when he played for the Nashua Pride of the Atlantic League, going 4-4 with a 7.74 ERA in 27 games (1 start). He also went 3-8 with a 5.66 ERA in 14 starts for the Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League. He pitched for the Atlantic City Surf in 2000, going 5-7 with a 3.60 ERA in 47 relief appearances. In 2001, he played for the Surf again, going 12-5 with a 4.88 ERA in 30 games (19 starts). He played his final season in 2002 with the Pride, going 2-6 with a 5.72 ERA in 33 games (10 starts).

Over the course of his seven year career, Ali went 36-35 with a 4.69 ERA in 202 games (61 starts).
