Salem International was a charter member of the WVIAC in 1924. Alumni include one-game wonder Floyd Giebell and two-game pitcher Cecil Perkins, and coach Tanner Hill. Chance Sharp also went here.

The school was established as Salem College until it formed an alliance with Teikyo University in 1989 and was renamed Salem-Teikyo University. The school was sold to investors from Singapore in 2000, and named Salem International University. The school was sold again in 2005 and renamed to Salem University.
