Biographical Information[edit]

Sal Campisi pitched three years in the majors. His 0.93 ERA in 7 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1969 was excellent, as was his 2.92 ERA in 37 games with the team in 1970. He was traded to the Minnesota Twins and appeared in 6 games in 1971, with an ERA of 4.15, drawing his big league career to a close. Through 2019, there has never been another major leaguer with the last name Campisi. The closest is Jorge Campillo, who shares the first five letters of the last name.

Sal was a big star at Long Island University, which he attended just before Terry Crowley. He had a 0.26 ERA in college in 1964. He started in the minors that same year, pitching in pro ball through 1971. He won over two-thirds of his minor league decisions, with the spotlight shining brightest as a Tulsa Oiler in 1969, finishing 15-2 with a 1.99 ERA in 40 games.
