Biographical Information[edit]

Ryusuke Minami hit 30 homers in high school. The Yokohama BayStars took him as a pitcher in the 5th round of the 1999 NPB draft. Wildness issues on the hill caused Yokohama to move him to the outfield in 2001. He made it to the big club in 2004, striking out in all four of his at-bats. He was 1 for 9 in 2005, then was traded to the Chiba Lotte Marines. He went 0 for 5 in 2006 and 1 for 5 in 2007.

Minami got 44 plate appearances in 21 games in 2008 and hit .225/.279/.350; he got his first career homer, off Takashi Ogasawara. in 2009, he batted .282/.300/.615 with 3 homers in 39 at-bats. Up to 57 games and 95 plate appearances in 2010, the defensive-minded outfielder put up a .205/.298/.265 line.
