Biographical Information[edit]
Ryan Wills umpired his first major league game on August 22, 2020 as one of 19 umpires to make their major league debut that season, a result of the coronavirus pandemic that prompted a number of veteran major league umpires to sit out the year. He worked a total of 13 games that first season, all of them in the two eastern divisions of MLB. His first 8 games were as the 5th umpire added to a regular crew because of doubleheaders. He returned in 2021 to work 107 games in the majors, even if he was still officially listed as a AAA umpire
He began his minor league career in 2011 and worked in the Gulf Coast League, Appalachian League, South Atlantic League, California League, Texas League, Eastern League and International League, in addition to the Florida Instructional League and Arizona Fall League. He is a graduate of the Jim Evans umpiring school.
His hometown is Williamsburg, VA.
