Biographical Information

Russ Morman appeared in nine different seasons in the major leagues, mostly as a first baseman, but only accumulated 470 at-bats during those seasons as he was also in the minors for most of each season. Despite only appearing in 4 games for the 1997 Florida Marlins, he still was awarded with a World Series ring. His major league career lasted from 1986 to 1997, while his minor league career went from 1983 to 1999. He became especially good as a minor league slugger after he passed the age of 30.

Morman was a first round pick in 1983 by the Chicago White Sox, and spent four seasons in the minors before coming up for the first time with the White Sox in August of 1986. He had shown some power, slugging .512 in 1985 with the Glens Falls White Sox, and then .703 in 21 games with Buffalo that same year.

1986 was the year when Morman got his most major league at-bats by far. He had 159 at-bats, hitting a decent .252 on a team that hit .247.

Although he played for three major league teams in his major league career, he was on many more minor league teams, playing in Triple A ball from 1985-1999 at Buffalo, Hawaii, Vancouver, Omaha, Nashville, Buffalo again, Edmonton, Charlotte, Durham, and Calgary. He became very good in the minors once he passed the age of thirty, slugging .510 in 1992, .575 in 1993, .574 in 1994, .588 in 1996, .623 in 1997, and .519 in 1999. Lifetime in the minors, he played 17 seasons with a .297/.379/.481 line with 207 home runs and 1029 RBI.

After his playing days, he became a manager, and was Manager of the Year in the Midwest League in 2001. He managed the Kane County Cougars in the Midwest League in 2000 and 2001, and the Augusta GreenJackets in the South Atlantic League in 2003. He was a hitting coach for the Portland Sea Dogs from 2004-2007. In 2008, Morman moved up to coach the Pawtucket Red Sox. In 2010 Morman was a coach for the Richmond Flying Squirrels and in 2011-2013 he moved up to the Fresno Grizzlies. He returned to Richmond in 2014, this time as the team's manager. In 2015, he became the manager of the San Jose Giants.

Notable Achievement

• Won a World Series with the Florida Marlins in 1997 (he did not play in the World Series).
