Biographical Information

Rube Lutzke played five years in the American League, all for the Cleveland Indians in the 1920s. He also had a minor league career which included playing at Newark in 1928 under manager Walter Johnson and in 1929 under manager Tris Speaker.

Lutzke was called "happy-go-lucky" by one newspaperman.

He missed some time in 1924 because of illness.

After his minor league days he played independent and city-league baseball in Milwaukee.

Lutzke, while a weak hitter in the majors, had defensive ability. He had big hands and could hold seven baseballs at one time in one hand.

A genealogical site has a post saying that Lutzke married a woman named Kuenn who was related to Harvey Kuenn, and that Lutzke had a role in teaching Kuenn how to play ball when Kuenn was small. Lutzke family.

After baseball he ran a tavern.
