Biographical Information[edit]
Roy van den Dungen Gronovius was born in Indonesia, then part of the Dutch East Indies. He moved to the continental part of the Netherlands and played for 20 years for the Storks, including several seasons in the Hoofdklasse (1967-1973, 1975, 1979) as a top shortstop. He led the league with 23 steals in 1967 and hit .384 in 1969 (second in the league, leading with 33 hits). He played for the Dutch national team in the 1965 European Championship, 1969 European Championship, 1970 Amateur World Series and 1971 European Championship; the Netherlands won all three of those European Championships. Van den Dungen Gronovius also played in the Haarlem Baseball Week five times. He set a Hoofdklasse record for longest surname (21 characters - Van den Dungen Gronovius).
