Biographical Information[edit]

Rowdy Hardy set the all-time Ohio Valley Conference win record. Undrafted out of college, he went on to lead his league in wins in his first full minor league season.

Hardy came to Austin Peay State University in 2004 and went 12-3 with a 2.90 ERA. He led the Ohio Valley Conference in wins and innings pitched (118). He was second in ERA. He tied for 10th in NCAA Division I in victories. He was named the Conference Rookie of the Year and made the All-Conference team. In 2005, the southpaw was 11-6 with a 2.63 ERA. He led the OVC in wins and strikeouts (96) and was second in ERA by .03, just missing the pitching Triple Crown. He walked only 24 in 127 innings. He was All-Conference and also won Pitcher of the Year honors. Hardy continued his success in 2006, going 9-3 with a 2.58 ERA and walking only 18 in 105 innings. He was third in the Ohio Valley Conference in ERA. He finished his college career as Austin Peay's all-time strikeout leader (over 250) and his 32 career wins set a Ohio Valley Conference record.

Hardy was signed by scout Spencer Graham for $1,000 for the Kansas City Royals as a 5th year senior proir to the 2006 amateur draft. He debuted with the 2006 Idaho Falls Chukars, going 5-3 with a 2.80 ERA. In 80 1/3 innings, he issued just five walks and held left-handed batters to a .200 batting average. In 2007, Hardy did even better. His record was 15-5, 2.48 for the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He led the Carolina League in wins and innings (167) and was second to James Deters in ERA. He walked 16 only. He led Royals minor leaguers in wins, ERA, innings pitched and complete games (3). He tied for 9th in the affiliated minors in wins. He was named the Most Valuable Pitcher in the Carolina League. Baseball America rated him as having the best control in the league.
