Biographical Information[edit]

Ross Stone pitched in Canada's amateur leagues for at least 18 years, starting with the 1959 Saskatoon Commodores. He was 7-0 for the 1964 Unity Cardinals then 10-4 for the 1965 Cardinals and 11-1 for them in 1966 with a 2.61 ERA. That year, he was the ace pitcher in the Northern Saskatchewan league, topping future major leaguers Bill Campbell and Norm Angelini.

Stone was part of the inaugural Team Canada in the 1967 Pan American Games. He got the first win in Team Canada history by beating Puerto Rico 3-2 in their second game; the win was soon removed though as Canada had four players with US pro experience on the roster, including Ron Smith, who homered in support of Stone. Ross later lost to Mexico and Team USA (the eventual Gold Medalists). He was back with Canada for the 1971 Pan American Games and got the start in a 2-0 win over the Dominican national team. He had a 1.84 ERA in the event, third on Canadian pitchers with 1+ IP of work behind Glennis Scott (0.00 in 8 IP) and George Brice (1.17).
