Biographical Information[edit]

A nomadic backup catcher, Ron Tingley played for 20 teams in a 19-season pro career that lasted from 1977 to 1995. In total, Tingley played 922 minor league games to go with his 278 big league games.

He hit a home run in his first American League at bat on August 8, 1988 as a member of the Cleveland Indians against the Baltimore Orioles. Jeff Ballard was the pitcher. He hit a grand slam on September 3, 1995 as a member of the Detroit Tigers against the Indians. Jose Mesa was the pitcher. It tied the game, but the Tigers went on to lose anyway.
