Biographical Information[edit]

Ron Cash played for two years in the majors with the Detroit Tigers. He had a great cup of coffee in 1973, hitting .410 in 39 at-bats.

Cash was born in Atlanta and went to Manatee Community College and Florida State. He attended FSU at the same time as Johnny Grubb. Ron appeared in the 1968 Junior College World Series and the 1970 College World Series. He was drafted five times without signing before he went in the third round (secondary phase) with the Tigers in 1971. Ron came to the majors in 1973 and again in 1974. He split his time in 1973 between the outfield and third base, while in 1974 he played mostly first base with a few games at third. Cash was with Detroit at the same time as Norm Cash, but was no relation. Norm, 39 in 1974, and Ron, 24, both played first base although Bill Freehan played more than either of them. Ron played for Toledo in 1973 and was with the Santurce Crabbers during the winter of 1973-74 under manager Frank Robinson.

Ron died in Tampa, in 2009 and is buried in Trinity Memorial Gardens, in Trinity, FL.
