Biographical Information

Ron Agterberg was a member of the Dutch national team.

Agterberg played in the Dutch minors from 1985-1990. From 1991-1995, he attended college in the USA while playing partial seasons in the Hoofdklasse. He was Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1991. In 1991, he was 0 for 12 for Haarlem Nicols and had a 6.75 ERA in three games. He played in the 1991 World Port Tournament, tossing 1 1/3 shutout innings. In '92, Ron batted .194 for Haarlem Nicols, followed by .208 in 1993.

Moving to Quick in 1994, Ronnie hit .267 and slugged .410 while going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA. He played in the 1994 Haarlem Baseball Week. In the 1994 Baseball World Cup, he backed up Byron Ward at third base and went 2 for 10 with a double, a homer, two walks and two errors. In '95, he hit .281/?/.469 and allowed one run in two innings.

Agterberg joined the Twins in 1996 and hit .338/?/.604 with 11 home runs and 33 runs in 35 games while struggling on the mound (0-2, 12.20). In '97, he hit .357/?/.593 for the Twins with 16 doubles and 43 runs in 42 games. He allowed one run in two innings as a pitcher. In the 1997 World Port Tournament, he went 2 for 8 with two walks and four runs. In the 1997 European Championship, Agterberg hit .417 and slugged .750 in the high-scoring Paris environs. He was 8th in slugging (between Roberto De Franceschi and Jiri Visek) as the Netherlands won a Silver Medal.

The Davos-born player joined Neptunus in 1998 and hit .384 with a .543 slugging percentage. In 43 games, he scored 42 runs and drove home 40. He also had his best season on the mound, going 3-2 with a 1.08 ERA. In the 1998 Holland Series, he was 3 for 14 and allowed one run in 1 2/3 IP as his team won the title.

In '99, Ron batted .372/?/.467 with 37 runs and 36 RBI in 44 games, then went 5 for 16 with a homer and 5 RBI in the 1999 Holland Series, which Neptunus won. Agterberg remained active until at least 2003, but was retired by 2005. He appeared for Antwerp in Belgium's First Division in 2003, going 1 for 4 with two errors in four chances afield.
