Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Roman Madrid began his professional career in 2012.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 44th round of the 2009 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Ken Giles, but opted not to sign. In the 2012 amateur draft, the San Diego Padres took him in the 7th round and he did ink a contract.

With the Eugene Emeralds in 2012, Madrid went 7-0 with 13 saves and a 2.89 ERA in 31 games, striking out 44 batters in 37 1/3 innings. He was a Northwest League Post-Season All-Star that year. In 2013, he was 6-4 with 22 saves and a 2.72 ERA in 51 appearances for the Fort Wayne TinCaps and he was named to the Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star squad. He pitched only 12 games in 2014, posting a 2.14 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 21 innings for the Lake Elsinore Storm.

On May 9, 2013, he participated in a no-hitter against the Great Lakes Loons. Replacing Leonel Campos, he pitched the final stretch of the game.
