Biographical Information[edit]

The bulk of his at-bats were with the Cincinnati Reds in 1989, where he was a frequently-used # 4 outfielder. He hit .263 and slugged .419, both numbers better than the team average. He had lots of power, but struck out too many times to stick, as he fanned 130 times in 406 major league at-bats. He also played briefly for the Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos.

He played 12 seasons in the minors.

Roomes was one of of the first three major leaguers born in Jamaica; the other two, Chili Davis and Devon White both played in All Star Games. Roomes grew up in Brooklyn, NY and Queens, NY after his family emigrated in 1969.
