Roger VanderWyst spent three years in the minors, all with the Appleton Papermakers. Opposing pitcher Bill O'Donnell remembers him as a speedy contact hitter. VanderWyst debuted by hitting .292 with 0 HR and 11 RBI in '51, then batted .269/~.368/.378 as Appleton's second baseman in 1952. He stole 19 bases and legged out 11 triples while only striking out 27 times. He led the Wisconsin State League in three-baggers that year. He wrapped up his career in '53, batting .282/~.376/.368 as the starting second baseman.
