Biographical Information

Catcher Roger Hansen was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 1980 amateur draft and played in their organization through 1986. In 1987, he signed with the Seattle Mariners, and he went on to play the final three seasons of his career in their farm system.

In 1990, Hansen began coaching in the minor leagues. He joined the Mariners big league staff in 1992 as bullpen coach, and was, at the time, the youngest coach in the majors. The next season, he returned to the minors as a coach, and he was skipper of the Everett AquaSox in 1996. After spending several years as an instructor with the Orix Blue Wave organization in Japan, he returned to the Mariners minor league system in 2002 and became their minor league catching coordinator in 2007. When manager Don Wakamatsu was fired along with three of his coaches on August 9, 2010, Hansen was named the team's bench coach, replacing Ty Van Burkleo. He returned to his catching coordinator post after the season, then after the 2011 season was promoted to Special Assistant to General Manager Jack Zduriencik.
