Biographical Information[edit]

Left-hander Roger Bowman won a Pacific Coast League-leading 22 games for the Hollywood Stars in 1954 and threw a seven-inning perfect game against the Portland Beavers on the final day of the season to give his team a tie for the pennant with the San Diego Padres, who then won a one-game playoff.

Roger, who attended Colgate, began his career in the New York Giants organization and, in 1950, he won 16 games for the Jersey City Giants leading the International League in strikeouts with 181. He had stints with the Giants from 1949 to 1952, winning two games for the 1951 pennant winners, and had the first of two PCL no-hitters while with the Oakland Oaks in 1952 against the Hollywood Stars. With the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1953 and 1955, he lost all seven of his decisions, bringing his overall major league record to 2-11. Bowman was in professional baseball from 1946 through 1961. His minor league record shows he was 131-119 with a career 3.90 ERA.

Roger was the owner of a custom upholstery business in L.A. where he died July 21, 1997, at age 69.
