Biographical Information[edit]
Rod Ingram was a college coach.
Ingram had a serious knee injury as a high school senior and it didn't look like he would be able to continue in baseball. He got a scholarship offer from Linfield College, had surgery in December and was ready for the spring season. As a sophomore, he hit .316 and was All-Conference at DH. His junior year, he hit .313 and was an All-Conference outfielder. He repeated as All-Conference as a senior. He hit .310 overall at Linfield.
The Cleveland Indians took him in the 14th round of the 1975 amateur draft as a junior, one pick after Rich Wortham. After his senior year, the San Francisco Giants took him in the second round of the January secondary draft, this time one pick before Wortham. He decided to remain in college for his teaching certificate.
Ingram was assistant coach at Linfield College for two years then was head coach of Saint Mary's College of California from 1996-1998.
