Robertson Field

From BR Bullpen

Robertson Field, or more formally Robertson Field at Satow Stadium is the home ballpark used by Columbia University located in the Manhattan, NY borough of New York City. It is part of the Baker Athletics Complex, which houses all of Columbia's sports facilities and is the largest amateur sports complex on the island of Manhattan and is located at the island's northern tip.

The ballpark has been known under a variety of names over the years, including Andy Coakley Stadium (in honor Andy Coakley, former major league pitcher and baseball coach at Columbia) and before that as Baker Field. It opened in 1925 - two years after Columbia's most famous baseball alumnus, Lou Gehrig, played for the baseball team. Still, it has witnessed a lot of history in its own right, including being the site of the first baseball game ever broadcast on television. That came about on May 17, 1939, the second game of a doubleheader between Princeton University and Columbia, and was shown on experimental station W2XBS in New York, with Bill Stern providing the play-by-play.

The current name of the ballpar derives from two alumni, Harold Robertson and Phillip Satow, both former baseball players for the Lions, whose names were apposed following extensive renovations in 2007.
