Biographical Information[edit]

Roberto Valenzuela has played in the minors and for the Mexican national team.

He debuted with the Venados de Mazatlán in the 2016-2017 Mexican Pacific League, hitting .224/.272/.288 but handling 87 chances error-free at second base. In the summer, he batted .271/.347/.349 for the Sultanes de Monterrey, fielding .987 at short, backing up Walter Ibarra. He hit .263/.341/.356 for the 2017-2018 Venados.

In '18, the Mexican League went to a split season. He produced at a .278/.316/.306 in 18 games in the spring season and .313/.363/.386 in 31 games in the fall season. That winter, he hit .234/.246/.250 for the Venados. He produced at a .314/.374/.433 clip for the Tecolotes de Dos Laredos. He fielded .958 at short. With Mazatlán in 2019-2020, he was 4 for 27 with 3 walks and hit .197/.265/.224 in 21 games for Monterrey. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. For Dos Laredos in 2021, he hit .310/.399/.392 and fielded .976 at short. That winter, he batted .280/.347/.368 for Monterrey.

Valenzuela hit .316/.413/.483 for the Tecolotes in 2022. He had a stellar winter at .365/.474/.532 with 18 doubles in 68 games. He won the batting title by .022 over Justin Dean, led in OBP by .043 over Dean, led in slugging by .013 over Fernando Villegas and was third in doubles. He hit .214/.371/.321 as a reinforcement for the Cañeros de Los Mochis in the 2023 Caribbean Series and drove in the winner against Colombia. His 7 runs tied him for third in the event, two behind Francisco Acuña and Gustavo Campero.

Playing for Mexico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he played one game. Pinch-hitting for Luis Urías and dew a walk from Indigo Diaz. [1]
