Biographical Information[edit]
In 1963, Roberto Rodríguez hit .173 as a catcher for the Daytona Beach Islanders. In 1964, he was 11-8 3.35 ERA for the Burlington (NC) Bees.
After leaving organized baseball, Rodriguez continued to play for many years for the Tigres de Aragua and others in the Venezuelan League, playing 17 seasons overall from 1961 to 1979. He was known as Roberto Munoz in his home country. He was 5th in the league's history with 735 strikeouts through 2015-2016. He was inducted into the Venezuelan Hall of Fame in 2011 in a class with Wilson Álvarez, Ozzie Guillén and Luis Salazar. After his retirement as a player, he served as an instructor in Carlos Guillen's baseball academy in Maracay, Aragua. He died of a heart attack in Maracay in 2012, aged 70.
