Biographical Information[edit]

Robert Roudný pitched for the Czech national team in their first four European Championships.

He was with the Czechs in the 1996 European Championship - B Pool as they qualified for their first European Championship, the 1997 European Championship. In the 1999 European Championship, he was 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in the round-robin; only Jimmy Summers had a better ERA among hurlers who allowed an earned run. The Czechs were 4-1 in the round-robin. In the first semifinal game, though, they lost to Russia as Roudný gave up 9 hits and 5 earned runs in 3 2/3 IP before Pavel Budský relieved. In the 2001 European Championship, the right-hander was 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA and .163 opponent average. On the Czech squad, only Petr Pacas had a lower ERA among qualifiers. Robert was 10th in opponent average.

With SB Rýchory in the 2001 Extraliga, he was 2-4 with a 6.08 ERA. He improved to 4-6 with a save and a 3.58 ERA in 2002, presumably his best Extraliga campaign. He was 4th in innings (between Jakub Vančura and Leoš Kubát), tied for 8th in complete games (3) and was 7th with 50 whiffs (between Budský and Jan Drábek). In '03, he fell to 0-5, 5.12 and was 6th with four complete games. That appears to have been his last Extraliga campaign. In the 2003 European Championship, he was 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA for the Czechs. In 2006, with the Patriots Liberec, he led the Czech National League (a lesser loop) with a dazzling 0.36 ERA.
